Lake Oswego is about to get some winter weather with cold temperatures, winds, and possibly snow. Freezing pipes is very common so make sure you are prepared.
1. Prevent pipes from freezing by keeping a drip flowing through them so water doesn’t settle enough to freeze.
2. Turn on faucets, showers, and bathtubs to a steady drip or stream of water.
3. Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.
4. Ensure outdoor spigots are off and are not retaining any water. Detach any garden hoses as well.
5. Install pipe insulation, caulk, or seal areas with drafts.
6. Keep your thermostat steady at 70 degrees.
7. Know where your shut off valve is located and have a plumber’s number handy just in case.
8. Try to conserve water as much as possible to alleviate unnecessary demands on the District’s water system.
